I want to start another blog

July 20, 2007 by anwar001

I started this blog because I wanted to improve my writing skills, and this blog would be a place where I can post on a regular basis whatever I learn so that I can easily refer back the lessons I learned earlier. This blog is meant to serve a dual purpose:

1. Its a place for me to remind myself of earlier lessons, and practice the skills I have learned.

2. At the same time, other people can benefit from these lessons when they read my blog.

I am thinking of starting another blog about communication skills because I want to improve my other aspects of communication apart from writing. That blog would likely serve the same two purposes as this one.

Writing mentally can improve your writing skills

One habit that can improve your article writing skills is to practice writing articles in your mind before putting them on paper.

Try to write the full article in your mind – from start to finish, covering all the points you wish to cover. If you are not satisfied with your first attempt, do it again. Repeat till you are satisfied with the quality of your mental article.

Then at the earliest chance, put it on paper or type and save the article on your computer lest you may forget some of the points you want to write about.

You may find that you are writing articles faster and better after practicing them first in your mind.

When you are actually writing or typing your article, if you get stuck at some point then try again to say mentally whatever you want to say. Whenever I do this while writing, I find I am able to move forward from the point I get stuck. Sometimes I have to do this many times before I fully finish writing my article. This technique helps me a lot.

Learn to write good headlines – 5 simple tips

5 tips to help you write eye-catching headlines for your blog posts and articles that generate user interest.

How can we write good headlines for blog posts and articles? I was researching and reading tips on creating good headlines. Here are some tips I have learned:

1. First and foremost, you should write articles with two purposes in mind: To catch the attention of your reader and to make him decide to read your article. The headline should grab the attention of the reader and make him stop whatever he is doing. And he should want to read your article fully. The headlines should serve these dual purpose.

2. Mention the main benefit/objective of your article or blog post, or the main problem it addresses.

3. Be as specific as possible. For example, if the post discusses of how to get more visitors to your blog, determine how much time it might take for the tips to be implemented and what kind of results can be expected. Then give a title accordingly: A better title would be ‘How to get 100 visitors to your blog daily for just a week’s work‘ rather than just saying ‘How to get more visitors daily to your blog‘.

Talk in specific numbers or stats wherever possible.

4. ‘How to’, ‘Discover’ and ‘Top 10 ways’ etc. kind of headlines can receive good response.

5. If you don’t like the ‘how to‘ approach to headlines, you can use the indirect ‘How I‘ headline. Talk about how you increased your daily blog visitors to 100 a day within just a week. Again be as specific as possible with figures and stats, because it makes your post more focused and makes your stand out from the competition.

Tip for writing sub-heading:
Summarize your entire blog post in 2-3 sentences and write that summary at the top of your article, just beneath the headline. I learned this tip from the following post:10 second rule – writing for the diagonal readers

Did I use all the above tips in writing headline for this post? Pls. tell me if I can improve my headlines. Give your suggestions for suitable headline for this post.
